The Kenyan tourism circuit is synonymous with abundant wildlife, epic safaris and lounging on warm sandy beaches. Time has come for players in the industry to diversify. This opportunity came calling when the 7 summits challenge happened. The aim of this expedition is to scale seven mountains within a specified time while raising awareness on a particular challenge.
The 7 summits challenge is currently taking place in the East Africa region. The team also aims to raise awareness about endangered species, namely, the elephant and the nearly extinct white rhino. The hope is that this will help boost conservation efforts as well as encourage more people to experience the African mountains on foot. The mountains that are in the lineup include Mt. Stanley, Mt. Speke, Mt. Meru, Mt. Karisimbi, the active volcano Mt. Nyiragongo, Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya.
The Kenyan government through the Cabinet Secretary in the ministry of Tourism, Najib Balala, supported the Kenyan part of this noble cause. The Minister participated in a three day hike to the top of Mt. Kenya, reaching the third highest point, Lenana on the 16th November 2017.
